The government's financial aid for first-time homebuyers is set to vanish. In the upcoming budget announcement next week, the government plans to terminate the $60 million subsidy for first home purchases and redirect these funds towards addressing social housing issues.

By February 2024, approximately 25,000 households had purchased their first homes, with 10,500 of them receiving subsidies. This indicates that 42% of first-time homebuyers benefited from the subsidy.

However, Housing Minister Bishop has stated that there will be no special effort to maintain the subsidies. To garner interest from future first-time homebuyers, the government appears poised to review all housing benefits.

When questioned by the press, the minister evaded giving a clear answer on whether the housing subsidies would be maintained. The government has only stated that all housing-related benefits are under review.
