RBNZ Household Expectations Survey Reveals Expectation of Exceeding RBNZ Inflation Target Within 2 Years
According to the recent household expectations survey by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ), inflation within the next two years is forecasted to exceed the RBNZ target range of 1-3%.
The survey indicates that despite efforts by the central bank, more time is needed to bring inflation back to target levels.
Projected inflation for Kiwi households is expected to reach 3.6% in two years, consistent with previous surveys. Despite a decline in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), households continue to anticipate high levels of inflation.
From the household perspective, one-year inflation is evaluated higher compared to previous surveys, leading to a slight adjustment in the central bank's five-year outlook to a lower level.
These survey results also impact the housing market. Concerns over households' ability to fulfill housing contracts have diminished recently, and short-term expectations regarding housing price increases have been adjusted.
Moreover, concerns regarding employment persist. While there's a slight increase in the possibility of job loss among households, the likelihood of finding new employment has significantly decreased according to the survey.
This survey represents a new phase in the RBNZ's household expectations survey, reflecting the results of the Tara-ā-Whare Household Expectations Survey, redeveloped since the first quarter of 2022.
Data for this report was collected by Research NZ, with the survey conducted online from April 17 to 25, 2024. A total of 1,007 New Zealand residents were surveyed.

또한, 일자리 관련 우려도 존재한다. 가계들은 일자리 잃을 가능성은 소폭 증가했지만, 새로운 일자리를 찾을 가능성은 상당히 감소한 것으로 조사되었다.
이번 조사는 중앙은행의 가계 기대 조사의 새로운 단계로서, 2022년 1분기부터 재개발된 Tara-ā-Whare-가계기대조사의 결과를 반영한다.
이 보고서의 자료는 Research NZ가 수집했으며, 조사는 2024년 4월 17일부터 25일까지 온라인으로 진행되었다. 총 1,007명의 뉴질랜드 거주자를 대상으로 조사되었다.
