New Zealand Housing Market Shows Signs of Recovery with Increased Activity
Against the backdrop of a recent surge in home transactions, the housing market in New Zealand is displaying vibrancy, according to data released by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) in November.
According to REINZ's data, the number of listings in the market is on the rise, and indicators such as a shortened duration for home transactions are evident. REINZ's Housing Price Index, reflecting fluctuations in home prices, increased by 0.8% in November compared to the previous month, marking an average annual growth rate of 6.1% over the last five years. Zen Beard, CEO of REINZ, noted a growing confidence in the housing market, evaluating an overall improvement in the situation.
The buoyancy in the housing market is spreading nationwide as the demand for home purchases continues to rise. Especially as the Christmas season approaches, the number of homes sold in November increased by 16% compared to October and was 12% higher than the same period last year. However, while the national average home price in November of the previous year increased by $1,000, reaching $790,000, it represents a 2% decrease compared to the same month of the previous year, with little difference from the previous month.
Beard, the CEO, remarked, "Although the situation is still uncertain, many indicators suggest an improvement in market conditions within the next few months," citing a recent stock market downturn and the recent increase in benchmark interest rates as limiting factors to stock price increases. He added, "With increasing confidence in the housing market, we anticipate a resurgence from the end of January onward."

베어드 CEO는 “아직은 불안정한 상태이지만, 향후 몇 개월 내에 시장 상황이 호전될 것으로 예상되는 지표들이 많이 나오고 있다”며, 연말에 증시의 약세와 최근의 기준금리 인상이 주가 상승을 제한하고 있다고 언급했다. 그는 “주택시장에 대한 신뢰도가 더 높아지면서 1월말부터 다시 활기를 띨 것으로 기대된다”고 덧붙였다.
