New Zealand has announced its plan to adopt the OECD's cryptocurrency tax reporting framework by April 2026.
According to a report by blockchain-focused media outlet CoinPost on the 27th, Simon Watts, New Zealand’s Minister of Revenue, provided detailed explanations of the proposed legislative amendments in the recently released Tax Bill Commentary (Annual Tax Rates, Emergency Responses, and Improvement Measures for 2024-25).
The OECD, an international organization coordinating global economic policies, endorsed and announced the cryptocurrency tax reporting framework in 2022. This framework aims to facilitate the exchange of information on cryptocurrency transactions to prevent international tax evasion.
Under the new regulations, cryptocurrency asset service providers based in New Zealand will be required to collect transaction information from users starting April 1, 2026. Additionally, companies will be obligated to report this information to the Inland Revenue Department by June 30, 2027.

27일 블록체인 전문 매체인 코인포스트에 따르면, 뉴질랜드의 사이먼 왓츠 세무부 장관은 최근 발표된 조세 법안 논평(2024-25년 연간 세율, 비상 대응 및 개선 조치)에서 이와 관련된 법률 개정 사항을 상세히 설명했다.
OECD는 글로벌 경제 정책을 조정하는 국제 기구로, 2022년에 암호화폐 거래에 대한 세금 보고 프레임워크를 지지하며 이를 공표한 바 있다. 해당 프레임워크는 국제적인 탈세 방지를 위해 암호화폐 거래에 관한 정보 교환을 촉진하고자 하는 목적을 가지고 있다.
뉴질랜드의 경우, 2026년 4월 1일부터 자국 내 암호화폐 자산 서비스 제공업체는 거래 사용자로부터 거래 정보를 수집해야 한다. 또한, 기업들은 2027년 6월 30일까지 해당 정보를 국세청에 보고해야 할 의무를 지닌다.
