Lydia Ko has achieved a remarkable feat by securing both an Olympic gold medal and a major tournament victory, propelling her to No. 3 in the world golf rankings. In the latest women’s golf rankings released on the 27th, Ko climbed nine spots from 12th to 3rd with an average score of 6.36 points.

In an interview following her win, Ko expressed, "The past three weeks have been a whirlwind for me. Born in South Korea in 1997, Ko moved to New Zealand at the age of six and acquired New Zealand citizenship. She gained prominence on the LPGA Tour with her first victory at 15 and was named world No. 1 at 17, earning the title of 'golf prodigy.' Despite facing a slump from 2017 to 2021, she made a significant comeback after marrying Jeong Jun, the son of Hyundai Card Chairman Jeong Tae-young, in December 2022.

Chairman Jeong showed his support during the Olympics through Instagram, stating, "One of our family members competed in the most important event of their life," and praised Ko’s dedication. He elaborated on the support given to Ko’s preference for Korean food during the Olympics, including the complex logistics of delivering meals traditionally eaten by gold medal-winning Korean archers.

Ko’s Olympic career began with the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016, followed by the Tokyo 2020 Games and the Paris 2024 Games, where she made history by winning gold, silver, and bronze medals consecutively—an unprecedented achievement for a female golfer. Additionally, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the age of 27 years and 3 months, breaking the record previously held by Park In-bee as the youngest inductee.
