The latest statistics reveal a staggering 25% decrease in new housing permits issued nationwide compared to the previous year.

According to data released last week by the Statistical Office, a total of 35,236 new housing permits were granted. Among these, single-family homes saw a decline of 23%, totaling 15,166 permits, while multi-family dwellings, including townhouses and apartments, witnessed a more significant decrease of 26%, totaling 20,070 permits.

Analyzing the recent trends, statisticians noted, "Annual new housing permits peaked at 51,015 in the year ending May 2022 and have been steadily decreasing since."

Of particular concern is the decline in multi-family dwellings, with townhouses, flats, and units experiencing an 18% decrease compared to the previous year, amounting to 16,166 permits, while apartments saw a drastic 48% decline, totaling 2,188 permits, marking nearly an eight-year low.

Regionally, Auckland experienced a 28% decrease with 14,699 permits, Canterbury saw a 20% reduction with 6,575 permits, Waikato witnessed a 28% decline with 3,228 permits, and Wellington exhibited the largest decrease rate among these four city regions, with 2,358 permits, marking a 35% decrease.

Even looking solely at the March quarter, nationwide new housing permits totaled 7,717, representing a 21% decrease compared to the same period last year. Single-family homes declined by 13%, with 3,447 permits, while multi-family dwellings saw a substantial 26% reduction, totaling 4,270 permits.

한 해 동안 전국적으로 이뤄진 신규주택 건축허가가 한 해 전과 비교해 25%나 줄었다는 최신 통계가 나왔다.

지난주 공표된 통계국 자료에 따르면, 총 3만 5,236건의 신규주택 건축허가가 이뤄졌다. 이 중에서 단독주택은 1만 5,166건으로 전년 대비 23% 줄었고, 공동주택은 2만 70건으로 26% 감소했다.

통계 담당자는 최근 추세를 분석해 "연간 신규주택 건축허가는 2022년 5월까지의 한 해 동안 5만 1,015건으로 최고치를 찍은 후, 계속해서 줄어들고 있다"고 밝혔다.

특히 공동주택 중에서는 타운하우스와 플랫 및 유닛 등이 1만 6,166건으로 전년 대비 18% 줄었으며, 아파트는 2,188건으로 48% 감소했다. 이는 거의 8년 만에 최저치다.

지역별로는 오클랜드가 1만 4,699건으로 28% 감소했고, 캔터베리는 6,575건으로 20% 줄었으며, 와이카토는 3,228건으로 28% 감소했다. 웰링턴은 2,358건으로 35%의 감소율을 보였다.

이번 3월 분기만 봐도, 전국 신규주택 건축허가는 7,717건으로 전년 동기 대비 21% 줄었다. 단독주택은 3,447건으로 13% 감소하고, 공동주택은 4,270건으로 26%나 줄었다.
