On the other hand, the single-family housing sector decreased by 27% to 15,675 permits, marking the first year where multi-unit housing permits surpassed those for single-family homes.
Regionally, Auckland, the major city, led with 15,488 permits, but experienced a 27% decrease compared to 2022. Other regions, including Christchurch, Waikato, and Wellington, also showed a downward trend, with Wellington experiencing a significant 37% decrease in housing building permits.
