Queenstown Housing Market Emerges as Prime Investment Destination with Soaring Average Sale Prices
In accordance with the latest data from Realestate.co.nz, Queenstown, renowned for its Central Otago district, continues to solidify its position as the optimal region for real estate investment.
Sellers in the Central Otago region are currently demanding an average listing price of $1.6 million, marking the highest average price in the region's history and experiencing a 19.3% surge since January 2023.
According to the Real Estate Institute's data, the mid-December median sale price stood at $1.3 million, with neighboring Southland also reaching a record high average of $555,173 in January, the highest in 17 years.
Over the past five years, the Central Otago Lake District consistently records the highest housing prices. Notably, housing demand in this region has surged by nearly 40% compared to December, with a remarkable 43.2% increase in January 2023.
Cromwell has emerged as the most searched city in this region, with searchers predominantly hailing from Auckland, Christchurch, and Sydney.
William from the Real Estate Research Institute highlighted that in 2021, Auckland and the Central Otago Lake region had a similar average price of $1.2 million. However, while Auckland is experiencing a downturn, Central Otago Lake continues its upward trend, emphasizing the unique lifestyle as a key consideration in real estate purchases.
As of January, Auckland's average sale price was $1.056 million, with listings experiencing a 10.5% YoY increase. However, the number of homes sold decreased by 1.7% compared to January of the previous year, amounting to 27,261 sold properties.
