The land in the Haumoana area, nestled along the coastal stretch, is reported to have lost over half of its area due to coastal erosion, imposing restrictions on potential building developments. Fiona Mackenzie, a real estate agent from Bayleys, emphasized that prospective buyers must submit plans to the council, with no guarantee of approval for construction.
Mackenzie conveyed that the idea behind this unconventional auction stemmed from the seller's preferences. The previous owner, who initially planned to build a restaurant near the site, has decided to sell the land as it is no longer deemed necessary.
This distinctive property has captured global interest, amassing over 12,000 views solely on TradeMe and sparking hundreds of international inquiries. However, overseas buyers face regulatory hurdles, requiring approval from the Overseas Investment Office (OIO) due to the coastal location's regulatory constraints.
Mackenzie remains confident that the final auction bid will surpass the $1 reserve, with the fate of this unique piece of land to be determined during the on-site auction scheduled for Friday, February 9, at 12:00 PM.
