According to reports from New Zealand media outlet RNZ on the 27th, Melissa Lee, of Korean descent, was elected as the Minister of Economic Development, Ethnic Communities, and Media and Communications in the new government inauguration. This announcement took place at the new government inauguration held at the Wellington Government Building on the 27th. On that day, Minister Lee took the oath of office in both English and Korean.
In her Korean address, Minister Lee stated, "Melissa Lee Ji-yeon solemnly swears to faithfully serve the President and the government in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Korea. She also pledges to conscientiously perform the duties of a member of parliament, prioritizing national interests and acting in accordance with her conscience." Born in 1966, Minister Lee was born in Korea and spent her early years in Malaysia before immigrating to New Zealand in 1988. With a major in Communication Studies from Deakin University in Australia, she accumulated over 15 years of experience as a journalist and anchor covering Asian culture and issues on TVNZ. Joining the National Party in 2008, she gained prominence with six consecutive terms until the 19th session. In 2021, she also delivered a prayer in Korean at the New Zealand Parliament.

취임식 이후, 리 장관은 자신의 소셜미디어(SNS)에 "오늘 공식적으로 장관으로 선서했다. 한국어로 선서하면서 한국인의 정체성을 인정받을 수 있어 자랑스럽다"고 밝히며, 크리스토퍼 럭슨 국민당 정부에 참여한 것에 대한 영광을 언급했다.
1966년생인 리 장관은 한국에서 태어나 말레이시아에서 어린 시절을 보냈으며 호주 디킨대학교에서 커뮤니케이션학을 전공한 후 1988년에 뉴질랜드로 이주했다. 현지 언론에서 20년 넘게 기자와 앵커로 활동한 리 장관은 TVNZ에서 아시아 문화와 이슈를 다루는 프로그램의 진행자 및 프로듀서로서 15년 동안의 경험을 쌓았다. 2008년에 한나라당에 소속되어 정치 활동을 시작한 그는 19대까지 6선을 차지하며 이름을 알렸다. 또한, 2021년에는 뉴질랜드 국회에서 국회의장이 읽는 기도문을 한국어로 낭독하기도 했다.
