ANZ Bank in New Zealand announced its financial performance up to September 30, 2023, revealing a cash profit of NZD 2.26 billion over the past 12 months. Despite achieving robust results, the bank issued a cautionary note, anticipating tough times ahead and advising some customers. This development comes on the heels of financial reports from BNZ Bank and Westpac Bank.

According to the recently released financial results of ANZ New Zealand, the bank has followed in the footsteps of BNZ Bank and Westpac Bank by achieving a high performance in annual net profit. ANZ Bank CEO Antonia Watson attributed the first-half success for the 2022-2023 fiscal year to "positive effects of cash rate increases and COVID fiscal stimulus." However, she acknowledged a performance slowdown in the second half due to a challenging economic environment.

Antonia Watson emphasized ANZ Bank's well-managed and resilient position, maintaining a strong foothold to support the New Zealand economy and customers. Despite a net profit of NZD 2.26 billion, she highlighted an increase in payments overdue by more than 90 days due to challenging financial conditions.

Watson stated that ANZ has set aside an additional NZD 144 million to prepare for bad debts and increased the total credit impairment provisions to NZD 857 million. Moreover, the bank reached out to over 290,000 customers in the past 12 months, offering reassurance and support in cases of financial stress.

While the majority of home loan customers experienced a transition to higher interest rates, Watson reported that most have adapted well. However, around 34% are currently receiving interest rates below 5%, and approximately one-third of this group is expected to transition to higher rates while maintaining their existing rates over the next six months.

Watson assured, "ANZ is doing its utmost to support customers in the face of rising interest rates and cost of living pressures." The robust and well-capitalized ANZ Bank highlighted its role in absorbing shocks in challenging economic situations, maintaining a strong position to meet the country's housing, business, and trade demands.
