ANZ Bank Plans Substantial Dividend Increase Amid Interest Rate Hike
In response to a rise in interest rates in Australia, ANZ Bank is devising plans to significantly boost its dividends. On the 12th, ANZ Bank finalized its per-share final dividend at 0.94 Australian dollars, marking a substantial increase from the previous year's 0.74 Australian dollars.
Shane Elliott, the CEO of ANZ, emphasized the significance of these decisions in a period of elevated interest rates, rising costs, and increasing geopolitical tensions, stating, "Maintaining a sound financial statement and successfully concluding the year with sufficient capital and provisions for potential credit losses are crucial in these times of high interest rates and growing economic uncertainties."
ANZ reported a net profit of 7.1 billion Australian dollars for the year up to September, recording a level similar to the previous year. Experts had anticipated a figure slightly higher at 7.21 billion Australian dollars.
Furthermore, ANZ's Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio rose by 1.05 percentage points compared to the previous year, reaching 13.3%. This increase is being evaluated as a positive signal for the bank's financial health.
