While Israel and the Palestinian territories are not major oil-producing nations, the Middle East region accounts for nearly one-third of the world's oil supply.
Experts anticipate that an escalation in Iran's conflict could jeopardize a significant portion of global oil supply. Appearing on a Tuesday morning broadcast, Bagri warned that this conflict could exacerbate inflation in New Zealand and bring more hardship to Kiwis.
Bagri stated, "Looking at the history of past global conflicts, oil prices can rise by more than 40% to 100% compared to pre-conflict trades." Positive signals of declining oil prices were reported over the weekend before the Middle East conflict escalated. However, with the situation rapidly changing, the conflict has begun, and oil prices are surging.
Bagri explained, "What we've seen in the last 24-48 hours is essentially a market rebounding from a significant downturn over the past 10 days. In fact, it has recovered about 50% of what we've seen in the last week and a half." He emphasized that it is not only the people in the Middle East but also China, Taiwan, and the United States that should closely monitor the situation.
