They stated, "We are confident that the current OCR level is restraining demand," and stressed the continuous need to alleviate pressure on production capacity to achieve the comprehensive inflation target of 1-3%.

Following the announcement of the unchanged benchmark rate, the New Zealand Dollar depreciated by 0.4% against the US Dollar, indicating a recent retreat in expectations of interest rate hikes.

RBNZ's interest rate outlook appears slightly more dovish than market expectations. By reducing the projected OCR peak from 5.7% to 5.6%, RBNZ has eased additional tightening risks.

The minutes of the financial policy decision meeting explicitly mentioned, "There is no change in the conviction that financial policy is restraining demand. The forecast supports a further reduction in pressure on production capacity and sustained support for ongoing inflation degradation."

Furthermore, the minutes added, "Over the past year, the New Zealand economy has broadly progressed as expected," noting that most measurements of inflation and inflation expectations have decreased, restricting the committee's ability to sustainably control inflation within the 1-3% range.
