New Zealand Stresses the Need for Immigration Policy Adjustment

Luxon announced that the government would conduct audits and checks in collaboration with the immigration department to effectively manage the immigrant population. Additionally, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand warned of the recent surge in immigration potentially stimulating economic demand and posing an inflation threat, announcing a freeze on the benchmark interest rate at the current 5.5%.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recently highlighted economic issues in New Zealand, including increased demand for housing and public services. Luxon underscored the importance of managing infrastructure appropriately to respond to the surging population.
