Airbnb to Ban Installation of CCTV Cameras in Rental Accommodations Worldwide Starting April
Airbnb has decided to prohibit the use of security cameras in rental accommodations globally starting from next month, April. This measure aims to enhance the protection of personal information of accommodation users.
Under the existing Airbnb regulations, it was permissible to install security cameras in common areas such as living rooms and hallways, provided that this was clearly stated in the accommodation listing. However, with this new decision, the use of security cameras overall will be banned, and cameras will no longer be allowed to be installed anywhere.
Airbnb officials have warned that accommodations failing to comply with these new regulations may have their listings removed from the app, and users are urged to report any cameras they encounter during their stay.
This decision comes following controversy sparked by a fake Airbnb advertisement aired on the U.S. comedy show Saturday Night Live, alleging hidden cameras in bathrooms. Airbnb has stated that this incident prompted them to implement stricter security measures.

에어비앤비가 다음 달 4월부터 임대 숙소 내 보안 카메라 사용을 전세계적으로 금지하기로 결정했다. 이러한 조치는 숙소 이용자들의 개인정보 보호를 강화하기 위한 것이다.
기존 에어비앤비 규정에서는 거실, 복도 등 공용 공간에 보안 카메라를 설치할 수 있었으나, 해당 사항이 명확히 숙소 목록에 기재돼 있어야만 허용되었다. 그러나 이번에는 전체적으로 보안 카메라 사용이 금지되며, 더 이상 어떠한 곳에서도 카메라를 설치할 수 없게 된다.
에어비앤비 측은 이러한 새로운 규정을 준수하지 않을 경우 해당 숙소 목록이 앱에서 삭제될 수 있으며, 또한 숙소 이용자들이 카메라를 발견할 경우 즉시 신고할 것을 당부했다.
이번 결정은 최근 미국의 코미디쇼 Saturday Night Live가 화장실에 카메라가 숨겨져 있다는 가짜 에어비앤비 광고를 방영한 후 논란이 되면서 나온 것으로, 에어비앤비는 이를 계기로 보다 엄격한 보안 조치를 시행하게 되었다고 밝혔다.
