Recent statistics reveal that the unemployment rate for the June quarter has risen from 4.4% to 4.6%. Meanwhile, wage growth has seen a significant increase in the public sector, with an annual rise of 6.9%.

According to data released today by Stats NZ, the job market in June continues to deteriorate. Notably, the unemployment rate among youth aged 15 to 24 has surged, reaching the highest level since March 2021. The number of unemployed individuals in this age group increased by 14,400, and the unemployment rate for those aged 20 to 24 rose by 5.8% compared to the previous year.

Wage statistics show a remarkable increase in the public sector. Public sector wage inflation hit a record high of 6.9%, with average hourly earnings for full-time employees climbing by 7.9% to $49.56. Additionally, the average income for full-time employees, including overtime, rose to $1,612, translating to an average hourly rate of $41.52.

This wage increase is largely attributed to wage hikes for healthcare workers, school counselors, therapists, and early childhood educators.

In other news, the New Zealand dollar has strengthened, rising by 0.5 cents. This development has led to reduced expectations of an OCR cash rate cut on August 14. The financial markets now anticipate that the central bank is less likely to lower interest rates.

임금 관련 통계에서는 공공부문에서의 임금 상승이 눈에 띄었다. 공공부문 임금 인플레이션은 6.9%로, 역대 최고치를 기록했으며, 정규직 직원의 시간당 소득은 7.9% 증가하여 $49.56에 도달했다. 또한, 정규직 직원의 평균 소득(초과 근무 포함)은 1612달러로 상승했으며, 이는 평균 정규 근무시간당 $41.52로 증가했다.

이러한 임금 상승은 헬스케어 종사자, 학교 상담사, 치료사 및 유아교육 직원의 임금 인상 효과가 크게 작용한 것으로 분석된다.

한편, 뉴질랜드 달러는 0.5센트 상승하며 통화 가치가 강화되었다. 이에 따라 8월 14일 예정된 OCR 공식 현금 금리 인하 가능성이 낮아졌다는 전망이 제기되고 있다. 금융시장에서는 중앙은행이 금리 인하를 단행할 것이라는 기대가 줄어든 상황이다.
